The Minister of Sports, Paralympic cycling champion Eduard Novak declared on Friday that he is glad that people with disabilities start to receive an important role in the daily life of Romanians.
Present at the "Winner on the Home Front" event, dedicated to the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, held at the Steaua Sports Complex, Novak mentioned that since his first term as minister he has given children and young people with disabilities the opportunity to use sports facilities.
"I think I am the most appropriate person to really feel the value of this event because I am also a sportsman, I am a minister and I am a person with a disability. In addition, my father was in the military. Today are we celebrating the Day of Persons with Disabilities all over the country, but it has not been like that all the time. Now I am very happy to see that things have changed, they are very different and I feel proud and happy that people with disabilities start to receive an important role in Romanians' daily lives. As a minister of sports, since I took over the first term, I have given people with disabilities, especially children, the opportunity to access our sports facilities," Novak said.
"People with disabilities, in my opinion, are a force, an example for all of us who fail to realize how fragile our lives are. We are thinking about how fragile our health can be and what tragic events can happen," he added.
The minister mentioned that caring for people with disabilities Romania is becoming a stronger country: "I believe that the more we take care of people with disabilities, the stronger a country and a stronger community we will become. Not in vain big countries such as United States, China or Australia have the same results also in the Paralympic Games and the Olympic Games. In fact, for the first time since Paris 2024, the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games will have the same logo."
The Minister of Sports, Eduard Novak, participated on Friday together with Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, Minister of Defence Vasile Dincu, members of INVICTUS Romania and athletes of Steaua Sports Club in the event "Winners on the home front," organized by the CONIL Association and dedicated to the International Day of People with Disabilities.
